Rosemount Rotary Welcomes the Tournament of Roses President

The Rotary Club of Rosemount proudly welcomed R. Scott Jenkins, this year’s Tournament of Roses president, and his wife, Cindy, to its regular noon meeting on Friday, July 12.

Jenkins was in Rosemount as part of the celebration surrounding Rosemount High School’s historic invitation to perform in the Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year’s Day 2014 and was the person who selected RHS to be one of the bands to perform in the parade. He attended a community pep rally for the band on Friday morning, then paid a visit to Rosemount Rotary for lunch.

“We are very honored that Scott Jenkins and his wife were able to join us today,” said Rosemount Rotary Past President Paul Eggen. “This is a very exciting time for Rosemount High School and we are glad we can share in the moment.”

RHS band director Steve Olsen and RHS principal John Wollersheim each shared enthusiastic comments about the bands selection before introducing Jenkins, who is also a Rotarian. In his speech, Jenkins shared some of the history of the Tournament of Roses, discussed the selection process and shared a video clip of the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade.

In addition to hearing some of the facts and history surrounding the parade, the club also learned about the fundraising efforts the band is making in order to reach the parade. More information about their efforts can be found here: http://www.rosemountband.com/index.php/en/.

We congratulate RHS on their achievement and extend a special thanks to the Jenkins for visiting Rosemount Rotary!
