September 2013 Member Spotlight: Matt Schaap

Matt Schaap serves as a motivational pillar within the Rotary Club of Rosemount thanks to his impressive list of accomplishments.

Matt is a litigation and trial attorney at Doughtery, Molenda, Solfest, Hills & Bauer P.A. During his eight years there, he has been recognized in Minnesota Law & Politics as a top young attorney and has been named in the Minnesota Rising Stars® List for the past six consecutive years.

When he’s not in the courtroom, Matt’s ability to scale glacial structures has been twice proven by climbs to the top of Mt. Shasta in California. He also recalls having lived his own version of the storyline played out by Zac Efron in High School Musical after he was selected to play Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls his senior year of high school. The big difference with Matt’s story was that he had to quit the basketball team to take the part, which he says worked out for the best.

Matt joined Rosemount Rotary because of his desire to get involved in and serve the community in which he lives and works. Among other things, he has enjoyed helping put on the club’s first fundraising event, serving root beer floats to kids at the Rosemount Family Resource Center and taking on the position of administrative chair.

Matt has a growing family that currently includes his wife Kate, daughter Eliana and son Asher.
